Most people love drinking a cup of chamomile tea on cold days. While chamomile is well-known for how well it helps people who struggle to sleep, there are many other health benefits to using chamomile in its various forms. People have been using chamomile as a natural medicine for decades and with things like chamomile hydrosol available it’s even easier to use chamomile specifically for its healing properties. Drinking chamomile tea is a common remedy for a cramping stomach and it also helps to soothe other pain like migraines.
Chamomile hydrosol can be used to boost your immune system as well. Studies have found that people who consume and use chamomile at least once a day had lower rates of catching the flu or a cold. This makes chamomile the perfect thing to have on hand during those cold winter months where catching a cold or the flu is all too easy. Having chamomile around the house is also good in the cases of injury. Chamomile can be used to treat minor burns at home. It can similarly be used on smaller cuts that don’t require medical attention. Chamomile can also be used to soothe inflammation and swelling, either by drinking the tea or by using it topically.
There are cosmetic benefits to chamomile too. Since chamomile reduces inflammation and tightens skin, you can use it to treat puffy eyes and dark circles, especially after a rough night. This can easily be done with chamomile tea bags. When they’ve cooled, leave them on your eyes for a few minutes and you’ll find that you look more awake and alert immediately after use. Chamomile can also help to even skin tone if you have dark spots or blotchiness. It will help to even out skin-tone while also tightening it, fighting wrinkles. Chamomile is also great for people who suffer from acne. The antioxidants contained within it fights and prevents the bacteria that causes acne. The best way to use chamomile to treat acne is by putting tea into a bowl filled with hot water. Then you can put your face over this bowl, with a towel over your head. This creates an environment in which the chamomile will steam your face, drawing out toxins and killing the bacteria that cause acne. After steaming your face under the towel for at least five minutes, you can wash your face and continue your skincare routine as normal. Doing this three to four times a week will help to clear acne and you’ll see a noticeable difference after a couple of steaming sessions. For optimum acne fighting benefits, have a cup of chamomile tea and use hydrosol after you’re done with your face routine!
There are studies being done that links the consumption of chamomile to the prevention of more serious diseases such as breast cancer, but these studies are ongoing and nothing conclusive has been proven yet. Even so, there are more than enough reasons to start using chamomile!
